The Leadville Trail 100 Run takes place today, August 19th, and you can find live tracking and results at the link here. Ultramarathons are tough, but Leadville has got to be one of the most challenging in the U.S.: this 100-mile trail race, which takes place near Leadville, Colorado, is held at elevations that range from around 9,000 to more than 12,000 feet.

At the Leadville 100 results page here you can view the male or female leaderboard, see overall results with splits, or track a particular athlete. Good luck to everyone competing in the Leadville Trail 100!

2012 Ironman U.S. Championship - Race Results

Results for Saturday's Ironman U.S. Championship in New York and New Jersey have been posted, and you can find them here at ironmanuschampionship.com/results. Official results are now available (only unofficial stats were previously available).

You have two options for viewing results. One is searchable (non-official) results, the other is the listing of official results, which are available as a PDF file and as an HTM (web) document.

The 2013 Ironman in New York/New Jersey will be held on August 10th. Registration was initially open for the event, but was suspended earlier this week. You can find the organizer's explanation for the 2013 Ironman registration suspension here. [Update, Aug. 15th: A Wall Street Journal article suggests that a steep price rise, from $895 for the 2012 race to $1,200 for next year's, was causing a slow rate of people signing up for the 2013 event. The article says it's up in the air as to whether the event is held next year.]

Congratulations to all finishers of the 2012 Ironman U.S. Championship. I was out watching and cheering along the running course, near the finish, and it was inspiring to see the men and women finishing after 12 or more hours.

Ironman U.S. Championship - This Weekend in NYC/NJ

UPDATE, 8/11: Track Ironman U.S. Championship participants here.

UPDATE, 8/10 p.m.: The swim is ON! The sewage problem in the Hudson River has cleared up enough for people to go back on the water, so the the U.S. Ironman Championship will indeed include the swim as well as the run and bike. At 4:30 Friday afternoon the Ironman folks announced on Twitter, "We are excited to announce that we will proceed with the 2.4-mile swim in the Hudson River during tomorrow's inaugural #IMNYC."

The Ironman U.S. Championship takes place this Saturday, August 11th in New York City and adjacent New Jersey (and, for the swim portion, in the Hudson River separating them). See below for links and details on the event.

U.S. Ironman championship
The inaugural U.S. Ironman Championship comes to NYC this Saturday.

This inaugural Ironman U.S. Championship is also the first time an Ironman event has been held in the nation's largest city, and is the most urban area to ever host an Ironman. The Ironman U.S. Championship includes: a 2.4-mile swim in the Hudson River, a 112-mile bike ride on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Bergen County (NJ) and Rockland County (NY), and a 26.2-mile run that starts in New Jersey and goes over the George Washington Bridge to conclude in Riverside Park on the west side of Manhattan.

Here is specific information on the Ironman U.S. Championship course and other details about the event:
Spectator information: See the Ironman site's comprehensive guide to watching this Saturday's triathlon (PDF file), which is several pages long and gives a number of maps, and suggests a number of viewing locations on both sides of the Hudson.

Let's hope the weather is good for the first-ever U.S. Ironman Championship in the New York City region. Best of luck to all participants!
