The field for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Marathon team will be set today in Los Angeles, and the event will be televised live for perhaps the first time. The top three men's and women's finishers will go to the Rio de Janeiro Summer Games later this year.

[UPDATE: the runners survived the hot conditions in L.A., and you can now view the U.S. Olympic Marathon results. Congrats to the winners who will represent the U.S. at the Summer Games in Rio:
Men: Galen Rupp, Meb Keflezighi, and Jared Ward
Women: Amy Cragg, Des Linden, and Shalane Flanagan]

Here are some places to find all the information you want to know about the 2016 Olympic Marathon Trials in L.A.:
As usual, there are many stories within the race, including 40-year-old Boston Marathon winner and Olympic medalist (and defending trials winner) Meb Keflezighi, running in his last Olympic trials. And national 10,000 meters record holder Galen Rupp making his debut in the marathon. The women's field includes 2012 trials defending champion Shalane Flanagan and 2012 runner-up Des Linden.

For previews of the race, see write-ups from the Competitor series, five things to watch for from Runner's World, and a look at Rupp's journey.

Enjoy the race, and good luck to all competitors in the 2016 U.S. Olympic Marathon trials!

2016 Arizona Rock & Roll Marathon - Race Results & More

The weekend of January 16th and 17th marked the running of the Arizona Rock & Roll Marathon and half marathon, which take runners through the streets of Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tempe. Race results are up, and the quickest way to find your individual stats are on this results search page.

Scroll down further on the page, and you'll find the race leaderboards, showing the top finishers for the marathon, half marathon, 5K, and other events. In the half marathon, a couple of American men tuning up for next month's Olympic marathon trials did well: Scott Bauhs finished first in 1:02:23, While Ben Bruce came in second in 1:02:28 (which, while not a winning time, was a PR for him, as he noted on Twitter after the race).

In the women's division, Janet Cherobon-Bawcom, a 2012 Olympian in the 10,000 meters, won the half marathon in 1:11:49. The runner-up was Tara Welling in 1:13:07. (See more in this story on the Arizona Rock & Roll Marathon.)

Note: Not to be outdone by her husband, Stephanie Rothstein Bruce came in ninth in the half marathon while pacing her friend Caitlin Comfort—not a bad finish, considering she gave birth to the couple's second child just a few months ago.

Tommy Rivers Puzey won the men’s Arizona Rock & Roll Marathon in 2:25:22, more than two minutes ahead of second-place finisher Roosevelt Cook. Tanya Gallager won the women's race, almost a minute in from of McKale Davis.
With some parts of the U.S. having typical freezing weather, we bet a distance run in the Arizona sun was a welcome experience.
