2010 NYC Marathon - How to Track Runners and Watch the Race

This year's NYC Marathon offers a number of ways to track runners and watch the race, and most of them are free. You'll find them at the 2010 ING NYC Marathon home page, but here are the highlights:

* NYC Marathon athlete alert: runner tracking through SMS text message. You can receive texts giving the splits of up to three runners at various points in the race: 5km, 10km, 15km, 20km, 25km, 30km, 35km, 40km, and finish. Cost: $2.99 in U.S.; $5.99 international.

* Free athlete tracking by Tata Consultantcy: track up to three runners in your web browser at www.INGNYCMarathon.org, beginning at 7:00 a.m. EDT on Sunday, November 7.

* NYC Marathon mobile iPhone alert: Includes live video feeds, the NBC TV broadcast, individual runner tracking, and more (Free basic download; $3.99 for premium)

In the New York City area, the NYC Marathon will be covered live on NBC channel 4 beginning at 9 a.m. The national broadcast of the NYC Marathon will be on NBC Sports from 2 to 4 p.m. And Universal Sports and NBC TV will offer live coverage via web stream beginning at 9 a.m.
