2012 Nike Women's Marathon, San Francisco - Race Info

The Nike Women's Marathon will once again be held in San Francisco in October 2012 (on Sunday the 14th), and below is some essential information to know about the race (and about other races in the Nike Women's series).

It's never been easy to find details about this race on the various Nike websites, and this year is no exception. The good news is that Nike seems to have consolidated the information at its Nike Women's Marathon (NWM) Facebook page, www.facebook.com/NWM26.2 (page for NWM event info here). Note: you can find results for the 2011 Nike Women's Marathon and Half Marathon here, and it seems results for the 2012 marathon will be posted there as well.

If you're in this year's NMW in San Francisco, you'll find information there such as:
[NOTE: Regarding results for the Nike Women's Marathon, the FAQ page says, "After all of our races, results will be posted at Facebook.com/nwm26.2 within a few days." In other words, don't expect to be able to find the results posted anywhere soon after the event]

In addition, there will be a Nike Women's Half Marathon in Washington, D.C. in early 2013 (apparently it's been decided to have the full and half marathons on different days and different cities, instead of on the same weekend).

Registration for the NWM Half Marathon in Washington opens in mid to late October, depending on which web page you're reading. See the 2013 NWM Half Marathon website for more details when they become available, and enter your e-mail address there to be notified of updates.

2012 Tunnel to Towers Run - RESULTS - Brooklyn to Manhattan

The annual Tunnel to Towers Run take place in New York City Sunday, Sept. 30th, starting in Brooklyn and going to Manhattan through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. You can find information at the official Tunnel to Towers Run Web site, including how to get to the start in Brooklyn and how to register on-site the morning of the race.

[UPDATE: You can find Tunnel to Towers results here for the Sept. 30th NYC race.]

Tunnel to Towers Run - logo

The run, which is 5K, starts at 9:30 a.m. Because of the large number of people running in the race (and the fact that the runners have to run through a tunnel), this is not a race for someone looking to set a PR. Unless you're starting near the front of the pack, you'll likely have slow going much of the race.

For more information on the race, including maps of the start and finish areas, see the Tunnel to Towers Run FAQ page.

The Tunnel to Towers Run is in honor of NYC firefighter Stephen Siller, who was off duty on 9/11/01 when he heard of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. He headed to his firehouse to get his gear and head for the fire, and since all tunnels and bridges were closed to traffic after the attacks, Siller ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel and to the World Trade Center... wearing his full firefighter gear. Sadly, Stephen Siller did not survive.

Besides the race, the Tunnel to Towers Run concludes with a big outdoor party near the finish line, with free food, live entertainment, and lots more.
