Registration is open for the 2016 Spring Lake 5 race at the Jersey shore!

The online sign-up just opened, at 5 a.m. on Feb. 7th, and you can register for the Spring Lake 4 here. The five-mile race takes place May 28th—Saturday morning of Memorial Day weekend—at 8:30 a.m. A series of kids' races will also be held; these are listed as 6 p.m. (on Friday the 27th, we'd assume). This is one of the most popular races in New Jersey, and always sells out quickly. (The site notes, "Registration ends February 7, 2016 at 11:59pm EST," but the field may well be full before then.) [UPDATE, 1:30 p.m.: Apparently the 2016 Spring Lake 5 is sold out; the website says that online registration is no longer available. BUT: in past years, runners have been able to enter the race by signing up through a number of charities, which involves committing to raise a certain amount of donations for the charity. See the Spring Lake 5 website to find out if this option is available.]

In the meantime, check out the Spring Lake 5 course map.

Registration is now open, so go to the sign up page as soon as you see this. It may only take a few hours to fill up, maybe less than that?

2016 Arizona Rock & Roll Marathon - Race Results & More

The weekend of January 16th and 17th marked the running of the Arizona Rock & Roll Marathon and half marathon, which take runners through the streets of Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tempe. Race results are up, and the quickest way to find your individual stats are on this results search page.

Scroll down further on the page, and you'll find the race leaderboards, showing the top finishers for the marathon, half marathon, 5K, and other events. In the half marathon, a couple of American men tuning up for next month's Olympic marathon trials did well: Scott Bauhs finished first in 1:02:23, While Ben Bruce came in second in 1:02:28 (which, while not a winning time, was a PR for him, as he noted on Twitter after the race).

In the women's division, Janet Cherobon-Bawcom, a 2012 Olympian in the 10,000 meters, won the half marathon in 1:11:49. The runner-up was Tara Welling in 1:13:07. (See more in this story on the Arizona Rock & Roll Marathon.)

Note: Not to be outdone by her husband, Stephanie Rothstein Bruce came in ninth in the half marathon while pacing her friend Caitlin Comfort—not a bad finish, considering she gave birth to the couple's second child just a few months ago.

Tommy Rivers Puzey won the men’s Arizona Rock & Roll Marathon in 2:25:22, more than two minutes ahead of second-place finisher Roosevelt Cook. Tanya Gallager won the women's race, almost a minute in from of McKale Davis.
With some parts of the U.S. having typical freezing weather, we bet a distance run in the Arizona sun was a welcome experience.
