[UPDATE Aug. 22nd, 2017: The Nike Women's Half apparently is no more, but there's a brand-new, co-ed Virgin Sport San Francisco Half Marathon this October. It includes the half, a one-mile run, and a fitness festival. Learn more about Virgin Sport's new half marathon.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *Sunday, Oct. 20th is the big Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco, and you can track runners in real time with Track My Run at this link: gonike.me/sf13trackmyrun. At this site you can track multiple runners, follow them through the course with an interactive map, and even see the elevation at the point they're running (no small factor in a race that winds its way through the hills of San Francisco).

All you need to track runners is their bib number or last name.

2012 Nike Women's Marathon, San Francisco - Race Info

The Nike Women's Marathon will once again be held in San Francisco in October 2012 (on Sunday the 14th), and below is some essential information to know about the race (and about other races in the Nike Women's series).

It's never been easy to find details about this race on the various Nike websites, and this year is no exception. The good news is that Nike seems to have consolidated the information at its Nike Women's Marathon (NWM) Facebook page, www.facebook.com/NWM26.2 (page for NWM event info here). Note: you can find results for the 2011 Nike Women's Marathon and Half Marathon here, and it seems results for the 2012 marathon will be posted there as well.

If you're in this year's NMW in San Francisco, you'll find information there such as:

• 2012 Nike Women's Marathon race weekend details
• NWM frequently asked questions (FAQ), which contains details on when and where to pick up your packet, parking and transportation, awards, and more
• NWM course map

[NOTE: Regarding results for the Nike Women's Marathon, the FAQ page says, "After all of our races, results will be posted at Facebook.com/nwm26.2 within a few days." In other words, don't expect to be able to find the results posted anywhere soon after the event]

In addition, there will be a Nike Women's Half Marathon in Washington, D.C. in early 2013 (apparently it's been decided to have the full and half marathons on different days and different cities, instead of on the same weekend).

Registration for the NWM Half Marathon in Washington opens in mid to late October, depending on which web page you're reading. See the 2013 NWM Half Marathon website for more details when they become available, and enter your e-mail address there to be notified of updates.

2011 Nike Women's Marathon Results - San Francisco

The 8th Nike Women's Marathon took place October 16th, 2011.

There doesn't yet seem to be a way to view overall results; you enter a runner's name or bib number in a "Find Your Results" search box.

There are images of finishers' medals with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, but no times, with "Official Results Coming Soon" noted. (Update: it was later changed to say that final results will be posted as soon as they are available.) You might be able to find more information at the 2011 Nike Women's Marathon Facebook page, or at the race's website.

For some reason, Nike has never made it easy to find the results for this race. Most races have a straightforward "Results" link clearly visible on the home page, but not this one.

The 2011 Nike Women's Marathon took place October 16th.

2008 Nike Women's Marathon

The annual 2008 Nike Women's Marathon and Half Marathon will take place in San Francisco on October 19th. If you're interested in registering for the race, well, it's already been filled by a random drawing... BUT: you can still get in through the method listed below. For information on the Nike Women's Marathon and Half Marathon, see the organizer's FAQ.

As with previous years, the 2008 Nike Women's Marathon and Half Marathon are benefit events for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and it seems as if you can still gain entry into the Marathon if you sign up for the Team in Training program and sign up donors for the LLS. The Nike Women's Marathon doesn't mention anything about the Half Marathon being sold out... maybe it's everyone who signs up is considered part of the "marathon," and they can choose to run the full marathon or the half?
