Runners get to take over the streets of Manhattan Sunday in the NYC Half Marathon, and middle-of-the-pack runners will be running the course along with elite athletes from around the world (more on them later). The race starts at 7:30 a.m. Here are some links for more information:
(UPDATE: NYC Half Marathon results now available here.)
NYC Half Marathon course map: The NYC Half begins on the Upper East Side in Central Park and makes a complete outer loop of the park, then goes down Seventh Avenue to Times Square, then along the Hudson River waterfront, and then to Lower Manhattan, near the financial district. (The page also details Manhattan road closures for the race.)
* Watch it online: You can follow the NYC Half live (and also on demand) at the NY Road Runners Club's new online TV channel.
* NYC Half Marathon runner tracking: There are three ways to track individual runners during the race, online, via e-mail, and via text message; see details at the link.
* Elite runners: There are quite a few elite runners from around the world running in the NYC Half Marathon. On the men's side, there are Americans Ryan Hall (the U.S. half-marathon record holder) and 2009 NYC Marathon champion Meb Keflezighi, as well as 2010 NYC Marathon champion Gebre Gebremariam of Ethiopia and Mo Farah of Great Britain, the 2010 European champion at 10,000 and 5,000 meters.
Elite runners in the women's field include U.S. Olympian Kara Goucher, Yuri Kano of Japan, and Edna Kiplagat of Kenya, the 2010 winner of both the NYC Marathon and the L.A. Marathon.
This will be a great race for runners and spectators, and the temperatures will be cool Sunday morning and ideal weather for distance running. Good luck to all participants!
