2011 Reach the Beach Relay (Massachusetts) is Underway
The Massachusetts version of the Reach the Beach relay is now underway. Officially known as The RTB Relay: Wachusett to Westport, the event features teams of varying sizes running 200 miles over a 24-hour period. RTB starts in Princeton, Mass. at the Mount Wachusett Ski Area and concludes at the Horseneck Beach State Reservation in Westport.
I've heard of Reach the Beach a number of times over the years but was never really quite clear what it was all about. This year I know a few people in one of the teams, some I'm taking more of an interest in it. Teams can be up to 12 members, and each member runs three legs in the event. (You can learn some of the basic rules and registration info here, and find a PDF list of RTB Massachusetts teams and start times here].)
You can check for Reach the Beach live results (nothing in as of 12 Noon on May 20th, but check back later for information).
There's also the Reach the Beach New Hampshire relay on Sept. 16th and 17th. (It's sold out, but the site says there are still spots available through charity partners.)

2011 HoHa Classic in Hoboken - Race Results
The rains held up for the 2011 HoHa Classic 5 Mile race in Hoboken, NJ, and you can find the race results here. As always, the course featured several loops along the Hudson River waterfront, with great views of the Manhattan skyline. Unfortunately (to me), the course did not continue along Washington Street for the second year in a row; a shame since that is where most of the spectators used to watch the race.
You can search the HoHa Classic race results by runner number, age group, etc. at the website below. The overall winner of the race was Hoboken's own Jared Tooteu in a time of 27:21 -- a smoking pace of 5:28 per mile. The top women's finisher was Katherine Lennon (also of Hoboken), in a time of 35:00. Congrats to them and to all the other finishers.
I was a spectator at the race this year since I ran a race in Central Park yesterday, and it was a fun change of pace to cheer on the runners... although I was disappointed that there weren't more spectators out there to encourage the competitors.
For more information on the race and on its sponsors, the Hoboken Harriers, see the club's website at HoHa.net.

I heard that rain was forecast for today in Pittsburgh, but I hope that weather report improved, since I can't imagine anything more uncomfortable than running 26 miles in the race.
If you ran the Pittsburgh Marathon or any of the other races today, I hope it was relatively dry, or that you've dried off sufficiently. Now you can put your feet up and check the race results above. Congrats!

2011 UAE Healthy Kidney 10K - Race Results
Today was a great day in Central Park for the annual UAE Healthy Kidney 10K, and you'll find the results here. The overcast skies and low-60s temps made for great running weather, and this year's race featured not only a record time for the event, but the fastest 10K time ever run in Central Park!
The winner was Leonard Patrick Komon of Kenya (world record holder for 10K), who ran the race in a time of 27:35, which earned him a total of $45,000 (for the first-place finish and for setting the record).
No matter what time you had, check the results page below to find your exact results. As usual, you can view the race results in several ways: overall listings, gender listing, age group, etc.
The UAE Healthy Kidney 10K is sponsored by the United Arab Emirates in honor of one of its leaders, who came to the U.S. to get treatment for kidney disease. The UAE shows its appreciation in several ways. Besides helping fund the race, the country also makes a large contribution to kidney disease research, and offers some rather appealing prize money -- which no doubt helped attract some of the world-class runners to the event.
How was my time? Um, I ran the race about a half hour slower than Mr. Komon. I was about a minute slower than my last 10K, the Scotland Run.
Check your results below, and congratulations to all finishers of the UAE Healthy Kidney 10K!

2011 Newport 10K (Newport 10,000) - Race Results
[See 2014 Newport 10K race results here!]
- - - - - - - - - -
Somehow I didn't realize that the Newport 10K was taking place this weekend until it was over... unfortunate since this is a local race for me, and has some great scenery. In any case, here you'll find the race results for the 2011 Newport 10K (also called the Newport 10,000). This year's race was held yesterday, May 7th in and around the Newport area of Jersey City and along the waterfront.
It may have been a bit warmer than runners would have liked yesterday, but it certainly cooler than some temps the area has seen in early May in recent years.
The Newport 10K has a flat, fast course, which is probably one of the reasons is was chosen as the USATF-NJ men's and women's 10K championship race. I'll be checking to see if some people I know set PRs.
